Our babies are very special to us. For me, my little angels are all that I’ve asked since I got married just a couple of years ago. Since I adore them so much, taking care of them is my most important task as a mother. I know how sensitive our young ones are.
Therefore, I would advise any mothers and parents out there to resort to using natural baby care.
Children nowadays are quite exposed to different hazardous substances. Even from the moment they are born, they are already subjected to some of these chemicals.
So do me a favor, learn two or three of the tricks that I have listed in this article. From the moment that you will direly need them, these all-natural baby care h*cks will surely aid you.
I compiled some of the best natural baby care tricks and tips. In this way, parents like you will have better alternatives in ensuring the comfort and delight of their children.
1. Baking Soda, Rice Corn, and Hot Water in Cleaning Baby Bottles
It is just so hard to clean a battle bottle that has sticky substances inside. Using a brush will not ease the trouble. Luckily, there is another way to solve this pesky errand. Just put 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda, rice corn, and liquid soap in a pot of boiling over. Afterward, pour them into the baby bottles and let the solution sit for a few minutes. Rinse the bottles afterward. You can guarantee that by doing this, your bottles will be clean and aromatic!
2. Natural Cream for Cloth Diapers
Boil water in a small saucepan or heater. Afterward, melt the coconut oil in the boiling water. If you have extracts of chamomile and calendula, mix them in the solution and let the heating goes until the coconut oil turns yellow. Also, if you can smell the scent of the flowers, then you can stop heating already. Make sure that the level of water doesn’t go down.
Filter or strain the flowers out to ensure that the coconut oil will be the only thing left. In doing this process, it would be convenient if you have a metal strainer with a fine mesh. Cheesecloth will also do, but you will lose a lot of coconut oil. Either way, make sure that the flowers are removed.
Mix the coconut oil with an arrowroot (or zinc oxide) or Shea butter. You need a blender to this. Mix until the solution becomes a thick paste. Afterward, store it in a small jar and make sure that you lock it tightly. In this way, the air won’t produce any moisture that ruins the cream.
This mixture is more effective and better than those you buy at stores!
3. Baby Oil That Has A Lots of Vitamins!
Use chamomile and calendula extracts and put them in a glass jar. Make sure that you can fill the entire container. Afterward, pour a coconut oil on it and seal it using a tight lid. Store your jar in a fresh and dark place in your home. Also, you should never forget the shake the container for at least once a day for straight 6 to 8 weeks.
Or you can use Natural Veggie Oils e.g. sun flower, and jojoba, and grapeseed etc.
When you can see that your oil turns into vermillion-light color, then it is ready to be applied for your baby! This oil is so soothing and that it is ideal for calming a baby. It is also perfect for treating skin irritations and eczema.
Nothing is more all-natural than breastfeeding. Many mothers are avoiding this because it ruins the natural appearance of their twin assets. We are aware women very well. All of us are vain at some point. A sexy figure sometimes defines us. But don’t you know that by breastfeeding, you will lose up to 500 calories? Hence, it is not only healthy for your baby but to you also!
5. Natural Baby Powder
There is a reason that I don’t buy commercial baby powders. And I would suggest that you would be careful with them too. Some of these manufactured baby powders contain talc, a relative of asbestos, which is linked to different strains of cancer.
Good thing, there is a natural alternative for this product.
Use a powdered chamomile or calendula. Mix the solution with an arrowroot powder and gently store it in a jar. For the ease of use, you can try a sugar shaker as a container. There is no hassle in making a natural baby powder. It is safer than its commercial counterpart and proves to be more soothing to apply!
6. All Natural Baby Wipes
Have you ever read the ingredients of the commercial brands of baby wipes? Let’s take Pampers Clean for example. Its ingredients are the following:
Citric Acid Fragrance
And what are the end-results of these ingredients? A 5 out of 10 hazard rating! In this level, your baby can suffer from immunotoxicity, organ system toxicity, and even allergies. That’s why an all-natural baby wipe are the only option for me.
Use a roll of paper towels and cut in half using a knife.
Use a Rubbermaid #6 container and place the wipes there in a cut-side-down position.
Mix and stir water, witch hazel, Castile soap, vitamin E powder, and coconut oil in a bowl. After stirring, add other essential oils (olive and almond) and mix one more time.
Pour the mixture into the container of paper towels. Let the absorption take place for 5 to 10 minutes. You can flip the container to ensure that the paper wipes absorb all the solution.
The amount of water that you have to put depends on your preference. That’s why it is good to experiment sometimes!
If you know that your baby has sensitive skin, then do not use anymore the essentials oils. Neither the chamomile or calendula.
7. Skin-safe Baby Lotion
There are different ingredients you can use for a DIY baby lotion. But as for me, the following are the best:
Vanilla and Lavender
Peppermint and Ginger
Chamomile and Calendula
Mix all the ingredients in a large glass jar.
Using a saucepan, boil the water in a moderate heat.
This is the fun part. Place the jar in the pan with water. Make sure that it has a loose lid. After a few minutes, you will notice that all of the ingredients will melt.
To aid in the melting process, you can shake or stir the jar. If all of the ingredients are all properly mixed, pour the homemade lotion into ay container you want.
Apparently, homemade baby lotions have more shelf-life than those you buy at stores! Aside from that, lotions like this are excellent for the skin and can even treat eczema.
You can also use this to remove and prevent your stretch marks!
8. Baby Shampoo with no Harmful Chemicals
To be honest, your baby doesn’t need bath soaps or shampoos in their early months. Their skin produces protective oil that you should leave for the moment.
However, if you have an urge to make your baby squeaky clean (just like me), then you can try a liquid Castille soap. This can be used as a shampoo or soap. But if there is no dire need to do so, then just use natural microfiber cloths. You can use this to wipe the dirt and food in the skin of your baby without taking its natural oil.
In bathing my baby, I sometimes use coconut oil or the homemade baby lotion we did!
9. Using the All-Natural Baby Wipes To Sleep Your Baby
This is a unique technique but can be helpful in times that your baby can’t just sleep. Use the wipes you made and gently (I mean, very gently) stroke the face of your child. Your little child can feel dizzy fast once the smooth and calming sensation of the stroking touches his face.
However, the response of a baby differs from another baby. Your child might get irritated of this. If you find this baby wipes h*ck not useful, then there are other options as well. One of this is massaging the forehead, belly, and scalp of your infant.
10. Using Darks Curtains (To Not Scare Your Baby)
Your baby is used to the dim environment of your womb. It became your infant’s comfort zone for nine months. Therefore, it is quite hard for them to adjust to the outside world. Even to the point that little sound and movements are a nuisance to them already.
Making your baby room dim (but totally dark) will let your child feel comfortable. This kind of ambiance will help your child sleep and rest better.
11. Vacuum-sealing the Diapers
If you are going on a vacation with your baby, then having portable infant equipment is necessary. However, not all baby products are designed to make them ideal for travel. A good example of this is a diaper.
If you are using a disposable baby diaper, then put in on a sealable plastic bag and vacuum seal it. In this way, you can prevent the moisture from ruining the diapers’ quality.
12. Relieving Gas Pains
You don’t need any medications to take away the gas pain from your baby. You can actually do this by gently pushing your child’s feet towards his chest. This motion effectively expels the gas inside your baby!
13. Curing a Diaper Rash
Another way to cure a diaper rash is by using pure baking soda and Mylanta. Just mix these two to make a paste. Gently apply the mixture on the rash.
But you can just prevent this kind of hives if you will use a clothing diaper instead of the disposable ones. Sometimes, the skin of your baby is just too sensitive for them.
14. Healthy Baby Food
When it comes to the food of your baby, it is ideal to use seasonal fruits and vegetables. Their taste is too delicious that your child will crave for more.
Aside from that, we all know that fresh fruit and vegetables are the healthier choices, compared to cereals and baby foods. Moreover, they are less expensive, too!
15. Anti-Peeing Technique!
When opening the diaper of your baby, there is a good chance that your little angel will piss on you (especially if it is a boy).
To reduce the possibility of experiencing this quite annoying moment, apply the all-natural wet wipes you made across your baby’s belly button!
16. Cutting the Nails of your Baby
We all know that your baby squirms when you are about to cut his/ her nails. There is no other way to avoid this except if you will do the cutting twenty minutes after he/ she fell asleep!
17. Baby-Friendly Pain Relievers
You should not let your baby drink pain relievers they contain NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) that are not safe for children below 13 years old! And because we are talking about your baby here, then using pain relievers are just a “No-No.”
However, your baby will inevitably undergo several teething processes, which by all means, are painful. We want to ease their pain as it breaks our heart to see them cry.
Do not worry. In these occasions, you can use the chamomile tincture. For babies, you have to apply it externally to calm them if they are teething or having tantrums.
You can also make a chamomile tincture of your own.
These are the ingredients:
Rum or vodka
Glass jar with tight lid
Use dried or fresh chamomile flowers and fill a glass of jar.
Pour the boiling water to the container, just enough to cover the flower. Stir if necessary.
Afterward, pour 1 1/2 cups of rum or vodka. Tightly seal the jar with an airtight lid.
Put the container in a cool and dim place. Shake it once a day for straight 4 to 6 weeks!
While it is true that buying commercial baby products are convenient, it is still better to have your personal touch for your child. We parents must be aware that our infants are still too sensitive and fragile for the chemicals, which we thought are harmless. Our level of tolerance as adult is really different from theirs.
Who knows? The moment you reach the geriatric phase of your life, you can hand over these tips to your child as well. It is a repetitive process, after all. Besides, keeping our family healthy is something that we desire, right?
If you try to scrutinize those baby products, you will see that most of them contain compounds that are not safe for infants. Just take J&J baby shampoos. They are among the children products that have the worst chemical ratings.
Some baby oils are just made from liquid petroleum oil that have been scented with artificial fragrances.
I am not really against these products. But if you are up for the safety of your baby, would you really use them? For me, I would just wait until my child grows up. After all, I would never compromise the health and safety of my child!
I know how the skin of a baby can absorb any liquid-based applications you put into it. Therefore, going for all-natural baby care products are my ideal choice.
